Do we need trends?
I love to see what the trends for the following year are going to be, and what we can expect to see more of. But what happens if a design or colour you love isn’t part of the next trend? Do you stop using this colour, suddenly decide you don’t like this colour?
So, I’m asking the question… Do we need trends?
I feel that you don't necessarily need to follow trends in interior design. Trends are transient and can change relatively quickly, and they may not always align with your personal style, preferences, or the functional needs of your space. Here are a few reasons why you might choose not to prioritise trends:
Personal Style: Your home is an extension of your personality and style. If a trend doesn't resonate with you, it's perfectly acceptable to ignore it and focus on elements that make you feel comfortable and happy.
Timelessness: Classic and timeless designs often outlast trends. Opting for enduring styles can ensure that your space remains aesthetically pleasing and relevant over the long term.
Budget Constraints: Keeping up with the latest trends can be costly. Investing in timeless pieces and incorporating more affordable, trendy accents when desired allows for budget-friendly updates without a complete overhaul.
Sustainability: Constantly changing trends can contribute to a throwaway culture and be less sustainable. Opting for sustainable and eco-friendly choices, as well as durable, high-quality pieces, can have a positive impact on both the environment and your long-term satisfaction with your home.
Ultimately, the key is to create a home that reflects your personality, supports your lifestyle, and makes you feel comfortable and happy. While trends can offer inspiration, they are not a strict rulebook for designing your space. Feel free to mix and match elements from different styles and eras to create a home that is uniquely yours. If a trend aligns with your taste and enhances your space, go for it; otherwise, don't be afraid to chart your own design path.
Happy New Year,
Love Carly xx
